Summary:

She surrendered the reins. Now he’s raising the stakes.

Rough Riders, Book 9

When a patch of ice sends attorney Ginger Paulson head-over-high-heels down a flight of stairs, she has no one to care for her young son and her invalid father—until lethally sexy Kane McKay shows up at the hospital, determined to prove his cowboy chivalry. Past experience has inoculated her against take-charge men, but even Ginger isn’t immune to Kane’s invasive charm and Built Ford Tough body.

For two years rancher Kane McKay has followed the Little Buddies mentoring program’s cardinal rule—hands off his Little Buddy Hayden’s mama. But one look at Ginger’s bruised body and Kane is through watching the stubborn woman take care of everyone but herself. The feisty, curvy redhead needs his help, and he’ll give her the hands-on type whether she likes it or not.

After Kane throws out doctor’s orders and issues his own demands—her full sexual submission—Ginger realizes Kane’s caring nature extends beyond just fulfilling her physical needs.

Can the former hell-raiser convince the gun-shy single mom to look beyond his past…toward a shared future?

Deb’s Review

Raising Kane is book 9 in the Rough Rider Series by Lorelei James. I have been waiting for Kane’s story, it seems like forever. Lorelei James has made the Rough Rider series a huge hit among readers. Ms. James has truly captured the essence of this series.

The reason I have been all but drooling for Kane’s story is he is so much more than what we first see in the other books. He is, kind, loving, and loyal. In addition, he’s downright lick-O-licious, which makes you drawn to him.

The plotline is drawn out so we don’t miss any of the action or feeling between the characters. Kane and Ginger gravitate toward each other like bee’s to honey. The heat between these two is smoldering, so make sure you have a fan handy *g*. There is the feel of family as well. Although the McKay’s and West are unique in their own way, when push comes to shove, they definitely have each others’ backs. Kane’s misplacement within his family is touching, which as the reader, you’ll experience and develop strong opinions about it as the book progresses.

Ginger is a brilliant, strong lady that will not stand to have her control taken away. She has been on her own for most of her life with little to no support. Can she truly let Kane take the reins? Will she loose herself if she does? These are the questions running through Ginger’s head, along with what she would do for a taste of Kane McKay. Come read along to see if she survives.

With Kane, just his looks should be a draw for the readers, but this man has so much more to give to this story. He has a sense of family, compassion, and yes he can make the reader smile and melt. Kane is what he calls a loner and dreams of love and having a family, but unfortunately, he thinks he is unworthy of such a treasure. Can one fiery red head, a kind-hearted eight year old boy and an old coot change his mind? Only time and reading this book will provide the answer.

As with anything Lorelei didn’t skimp on the passion between Ginger and Kane. Their love scenes nearly melted my mother board.*giggle* The things that man can do with furniture and a rope. Oh, the endless possibilities.

For me, the most touching part in the book as a reader was the connection between Buck (aka Kane) and Hayden. I about cried when Hayden found out about Kane’s dog, Shep, and then crawled up in Kane’s lap to comfort him. *sigh*

As always, I think every time I read a book in this series I say, ”Ah, this one is my favorite.” Then I read the new addition and I am blown away. If you have read anything from Lorelei James, you will understand what I am saying as a reader/reviewer. If I can help new readers discover Lorelei James talents as a writer by reading my review and comments, I consider my job well done.

Ms. James, I cannot wait to see what you have in store for us next. I have to ask though, is Ginger’s friend Ava Dumond going to be part of the McKay/West family?? You just gave us a touch of her and her name. Was this planned?

In closing, Raising Kane by Lorelei James is a sensual delight for anyone’s taste palate that equates to smoking` hot cowboy’s and a heroine that plans on getting her man.
