My Review of : One Day in Apple Grove by C.H Admirand

One Day in Apple Grove by C.H. Admirand
Series: Apple Grove, book #2
Publisher: Sourcebooks, Incorporated
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 320 pages

A Netgalley, ARC Review

Amazon Kindle Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary :

Welcome to Apple Grove, Ohio (pop. 597), a small town with a big heart.

Caitlin Mulcahy loves her family. She really does. But sometimes they can drive her to her last shred of sanity—from her dad (“I’m not meddling, I just want what’s best for you”) to her eight-months-pregnant older sister to her younger sister, who will do just about anything to avoid real work. Cait just needs to get away, even if for only an hour.

When she sees someone in need of help on the side of the road, of course she’s going to pull over. She might even be able to fix his engine—after all, the Mulcahy family is a handy bunch. She’s not expecting that former Navy medic Jack Gannon and a little black puppy named Jameson will be the ones who end up rescuing in her.

Deb’s Review :

One Day in Apple Grove is book two in the Apple Grove series, and I can honestly say, “I am hooked.” C.H Armirand has a hit.

Jack is all kinds of yumminess, one hot, sexy dish he definitely gets your heart pounding. Jack in living with nightmares from the past. Jack has his doubts that the love of a good woman can help heel him and his heart.

Cait is a true darling. She is an all American gal, with strong values. When Cait loves it is with her whole heart, but will that be enough to break through the walls Jack built around himself? Is Cait truly strong enough to pull him through and guard her heart?

Jack and Cait discover that living in a small town has its pros and cons. Their bond is sweet yet easy going. Their friendship to lovers shows the range of their emotion and growth toward each other. Their romance is spicy enough for your enjoyment, but not enough to have you blushing. *grins*

There is an amazing line-up of characters from book one, “A Wedding in Apple Grove”. Cait, Grace and Meg, I felt like we were shorted in time spent with all three of these amazing women. Now Joe and Mary are too adorable for words, I know their romance is in the simmering stage, but I hope we get their story as well.

If you enjoy a sweet tender love story, with a small town feel with engaging characters that hold your attention until the last page is turned. Pick-up One Day in Apple Grove by C.H Admirand Ms. Admirand, is the next Debbie Macomber. I for one cannot wait for the next installment.

My Review of : Shallow Pond by Alissa Grosso

Shallow Pond by Alissa Grosso
Publisher: Flux Books
Genre: Young Adult, Mystery
Length: 336 pages

A Netgalley ARC review

Amazon Kindle Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary :

Sisters uncover an unbelievable family secret

Barbara “Babie” Bunting is constantly mistaken for her sisters, but she’s determined not to end up like her family. She doesn’t plan to stick around Shallow Pond after graduation, and she certainly won’t be ruined by a broken heart. That is, until fellow orphan Zach Faraday walks into the picture, and Babie can’t deny their chemistry.

When her oldest sister, Annie, comes down with a mysterious illness—initially dismissed as “love sickness”—Babie and Zach start investigating what exactly killed the girls’ mother and why their late father became so consumed by grief. What they find changes everything.

Deb’s Review :

To say this was an unusual read is an understatement. Shallow Pond, is an odd look into reproduction and the crazy things we all would do for love.

Barbara Bunting I thought was going to be just a normal love interest type of character…boy was I wrong. She turns out to be for me the big draw to Shallow Pond. Barbara realizes that there is something not quite right in the Bunting House she grew up in.

Zach Farlay is a true boy wonder the cute, sweet the new guy in school. I have to admit it took me awhile to get into his character, he was slow building. His character was hard for me to grasp, when he was in they can’t live without me mantra.

Their story is a different love story. One that makes you wonder if sometimes if it is possible to go too far for love.

As for the secondary characters there were a few, but I have to say the Bunting girls were the main draw of this book. Annie and Grace were just as involved as Barbie was. Their bond as sister and the mystery holds. There was so many twist and turns, some O.M.G moments I found myself going back a few pages to reread what I have discovered. This was a brilliant insight that Ms. Grossoachieved, the whole suspense vibe.

Shallow Pond by Alissa Grosso was an interesting read with a plot that flow smoothly even with all the twists within the pages. I have to say if you have a 14 to something young adult, I would rate this as a PG book. I can honestly say that the rating of this book was not an issue for me. I was more interested in seeing how, Ms. Grosso planned on finishing out the Bunting sisters. Even with a few flaws in editing, I still enjoyed Shallow Pond that I would recommend it to everyone.

Spotlight and Review With Sage Ardman author of Execiutive Sweet

Executive Sweet by Sage Ardman
Publisher: R.L. Ranch Press
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Suspense, Humor
Length: 334 pages

Kay Samson is fresh out of business school and has a job as a junior executiveor so she thinks. But the job turns out to be something else: a bizarre game of erotic high-finance business deals. Although it starts off innocently, with just a little teasing, the game draws her in deeper with each new deal, and thrills her more than she could ever imagine. Who would have thought that her brains and her beauty could work together so powerfully?

Kay’s partner in this game is Dan Avery, the handsome CEO of the company. The two of them might seem like a perfect match, but neither wants to get romantically involved. Dan has a history of bad relationships, and refuses to wreck the game by having another bitter breakup. Kay is wary of men, who always lust for her looks and never care about what’s inside. Besides, they’re both having too much fun manipulating unsuspecting businessmen.

But with all the sexually-charged business deals going on, how long can they keep the game going and stay out of trouble?

My Review:

Executive Sweet by Sage Ardman is a suspense filled contemporary romance, which will keep your interest until the last page is turned. Ms. Ardman has a brilliant talent as an author, one I will be keeping an eye on.

Kay Samson was for me a force to be reckoned with, she knows the power she holds it illuminates from her person. What I think shocked me the most about Kay, is her willingness to play. What is a girl to do when in over your head? Play your cards carefully and hope in the end, she comes out on top.

Dan Avery comes off as a cad at first, but as his reasoning becomes clearer to me, I get his character better. After what he has endured at the last bitter break-up he wants nothing to do with someone like Kay. Can Dan keep it all business, or will he fall to the way side, perhaps handing his heart over to a woman.

As for the secondary characters, there were not many but I have to say Doris, has me laughing a few times with her bluntness. I think Dan and Kay held their own. As for the plot line not only did Ms. Ardman increase the depth and complexity of the story, but she also adds to the sexual chemistry, between Kay and Dan, as well as the suspense, which for me it was more of a Cat & Mouse game than anything else.

If you enjoy a sizzling read, with a plot twist or two the Executive Sweet is a must have for your reading library. Sage Ardman is definitely an author on the rise.

Kay stepped to the window of her office on the thirty-seventh floor of the Yorick building, wearing underwear and a thin man’s shirt, not even buttoned. The animal inside her was howling, baying at the moon and the sun and the stars. She threw herself against the window, both hands spread out on the glass, the shirt pulled open, the city below. It didn’t matter if anyone saw her-she ruled the city and could do what she wanted. A growl rumbled deep inside of her but quickly turned into laughter as she backed away from the window and did a little victory dance.

Arousal from the deal was still reverberating through her body and Kay wrapped her arms around herself. She thought about Dan, and a cavernous space opened inside of her, ruled by the raging animal. It didn’t matter that she had just bested Dennis Jones, that greedy troll. It didn’t even matter that she had just made two hundred thousand dollars in the deal. The animal wanted something more.

Authors Bio:

This is my third book, but my first novel. My other two books are non-fiction, and weren’t nearly as much fun to write.

Although I am an avid reader of fiction, I must admit that I never read a romance novel before writing Executive Sweet. Creating this book has definitely changed that, and now I love a good romance story.

Also, I never drank whiskey before I wrote this book. But since my heroine, Kay, drinks it, I became curious and now I enjoy a sip occasionally.

Life in Northern California is full of surprises, including this book. I have been happily married for nearly thirty years, and we have raised two wonderful children. I honestly wouldn’t trade places with anyone else, living or dead, real or imagined.

I want to give a shout out to Sage Ardman, for joining me here on HEARomances With A Little Kick. Cheers to wishing you all the best. I think you have a a special talent in what you pen.

Truly, Deb

BMP: The Auction by Lyn Austin Blog Tour

The Auction

The Auction by Lyn Austin
Publisher: Boroughs Publishing Group
Genre: Contemporary Suspense Romance
Length: 154 pages

In order to conceive a baby Kat goes to a bachelor auction and buys back her ex-husband for a week.

Katherine Blake wants a baby. At thirty-three, she has a home and an antique business that she loves, but she is running out of time. Kat hasn’t had a man in her life that she would even consider fathering her child…except her ex-husband.

Michael Blake is for sale. In support of special-needs children, he offers himself up for one week as a prize at a New Year’s Eve local celebrity bachelor auction. The result? His ex-wife buys him to finish the restoration of the hundred-year-old home they bought shortly after their marriage. Or so he thinks. Katherine does expect the remodeling to be finished, but the rest of her plan is more devious. She doesn’t need him to rekindle the one-of-a-kind love that led to their fairy-tale wedding and he doesn’t have to atone for the mistakes that led to their divorce, but he does have to…well, delivered.

Deb’s Review:

Who doesn’t like a wonderfully written romance. Lyn Austin doesn’t disappoint with her new book, The Auction.

Katherine, aka Kat to all who know her, has a case of, “I let a good thing go” syndrome. To make Kat’s unease worse was the fact that the hunk she’s bidding on is her ex-husband, good lord. I have to laugh because Kat drove me at times to close this book and move on, but I am glad I stuck by her. Kat grew into a wonderful heroine, which was fun and passionate.

Now Michael is an interesting delight, smart, sexy and available, what’s not to like about that.
I have to admit, I find myself on the fence about Michael, and he seems somewhat of a fake at first. When he truly lets you know him, his role in this story gets better. These two had their heads screwed on lopsided. *grins* of course love will do that to you. Can they come to terms before it’s too late?

The secondary characters helped give this book a strong standing. Homer, Kat’s grand dad had me laughing till my sides hurts. I will not spill his secret; you will have to read The Auction to truly see how wonderful he is. The plotline, was enjoyable, you get what you come for. I am going to have to keep an eye out for future works from, Lyn Austin

Lyn Austin surprised me with her book The Auction it read like a sexy contemporary romance but, what I did not expect is a bit of suspense thrown in. In truth I think that is what made this book a 4 rating for me. (in case you are wondering that is a good thing 😉 )

Topic: Knowledge or Imagination?

Last night my oldest grandchild graduated from high school. She will be attending the same college I went to in a neighboring state, just far enough away from home that she can have the freedom she is so excited about. She is a beautiful young woman and I can’t believe how fast the time has slipped through my fingers. When she was a child she would come to my home all the time for sleepovers. Now, I see more about her life on Facebook and we live only forty miles away from each other.

Over the years I’ve watched her cheer and interact with her school friends. She seems to be genuinely kind to everyone. And unlike me, she was an honor role student for the last four years. Which made me wonder, if I knew what I know now what I would change in my college years. Would I take it more seriously or less? Is that degree so very important, and at what cost? My grand-daughter, wants to be a veterinarian, so in her case it is necessary, but for a writer I go back to that age old question, What is more important…knowledge or imagination?

As a writing mentor for young writers, they can be taught the fundamentals of a structured story, but what I can’t give them is the gift of imagination. My imagination has got me into plenty of trouble in my life and it’s got me through some pretty hairy situations. I think a writer has to get out there in the part of the world that interests them and live.

Just live.

The more rich experiences you have when you are younger, the deeper and emotional your writing will be when you are older. How can you write honestly about love if you’re heart hasn’t been broken a few times? You wouldn’t think about writing about driving a boat if you’re never experienced what it feels like to be free, flying across a lake that’s as smooth as glass. You could not describe the sand rushing from under your feet as the tide goes out to the sea once more, or write about a great loss if you’ve never had one.

With life comes knowledge. I’ve turned every tragedy in my life, into a learning experience and that’s why I think my writing is better now than it ever has been. I’ve loved many, lost many, lived all over the world, and experienced so many cultures and diversity. I’ve tried just about everything once, (except skydiving and holding a tarantula,) which I will never do. My experiences have made me the writer I am today. So my advice to writers is get out there and do something fabulous!

When I was in my early twenties I noticed that my grandmother spent her spare time reading romance novels, I asked her why she had chosen the genre. She explained that they allowed her to fall in love with handsome men without pissing grandpa off.

I read my first romance novel that year and have been reading ever since. During my grandmother’s last illness, I read to her and in those months I decided to write romances. I thought if I can help someone escape for a couple of hours from the pain or boredom in their lives, or help them see and feel a world of love and beauty that would be a worthwhile contribution to humanity.

My message in each of my books is hope. Hope that there’s someone just right for each of us. Hope that even in our darkest hour there is light just around the corner. And hope that even if life circumstances keep you from a great relationship, you can dream and love and smile.

BMT: Araya’s Addiction by Jocelyn Dex

Title: Araya’s Addiction
Author: Jocelyn Dex
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance
Length: 30,500 words
Publisher: Ellora’s Cave

When Kean wakes up naked, collared and locked in a cell, he knows thinking with his dick has finally gotten him into trouble. Part Incubus, Kean enjoys scorching sexual liaisons, a habit that has found him trapped, forced to help a Sempire rescue her daughter from certain death.

Unwilling to aid in anyone’s imprisonment, Araya initially refuses her mother’s “gift”, but the passion simmering between her and Kean is undeniable. As they explore their shared lust, both Araya and Kean enact schemes to save each other. Their best laid plans may awaken emotions that will bind them forever.

Tip: A Sempire is a semen-reliant female demon. 🙂

Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Ellora’s Cave | All Romance Ebooks

Araya’s Addiction Excerpt:

Araya reached the door and the sight that met her eyes almost floored her. Through the fog of the glass shower door, she watched Kean’s muscled form beneath the flow of water, his head bent forward, one hand pressed against the shower wall in front of him. The other hand gripped his shaft. He pumped it with long, slow strokes from base to tip, sometimes lingering at the head.

His eyes opened as if he sensed her presence, and he inclined his head toward her. She wanted to close the door, but the alluring scene held her captive, her feet frozen in place. He stopped stroking himself just long enough to slide open the shower door, giving her a completely unobstructed view of the water running down his muscled body, running off the thick head of his erection.

Not only did her mouth water, her pussy ached and flooded with desire.

He resumed the stroking, faster this time, sometimes breaking the motion to slide his fingers over his balls. She saw the muscles in his arm tense as he squeezed and stroked harder, faster.

His strained voice startled her out of her daze. “If you want it, hurry.”

Deb’s Review:

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Jocelyn Dex couldn’t get any better than her book Araya’s Addiction. Araya’s Addiction is sexy, sensual and full of uninhibited raw passion that just made my whole body tingling  and toes curling. All I can say is have those ice buckets at the ready. *grins*

Kean is part incubus demon, one who enjoys a variety of sexual exploits. Kean kept me laughing throughout; I mean truly he was obsessed with the female gender. Ms. Dex gave us a fun loving hero.

Araya’s human side does not want to be taken over by her demon side. Araya to me was just lost, trying to fight what she knew was happening to her as a sempire, a demonic sub.

Kean and Araya, locked in a room could only have explosive results. Can these two save each other? I enjoyed their quick wittiness, scorching sex scenes, humor and the HEA moments. Ms. Dex had created a unique brand of demon’s; I am hoping to get more of.

Plot line as well as the characters drew me in and held my attentions to this rather unusual love story, will we Ms. Dex see any more books related to Araya and Kean’s?
